Whether you’re a small family, a few friends, or a couple on a romantic getaway, Saltspray Cottage on Quadra Island, BC., will delight you. Accessed from the parking area on the road, a steep flight of 40 stairs brings you down the hillside (covered with natural vegetation) to the entry deck of Saltspray Cottage, which is finished in weathered cedar shingle siding.
Indoors, lightness and brightness fill the open living, dining and kitchen area. A main bedroom with queen size bed and a small second bedroom with a twin bed, and bathroom complete the casual but comfy 1000 sq. ft. cottage. Two sets of french doors connect the living room to the front deck, which feels practically suspended over the saltwater at high tide. At low tide, enjoy direct access to the small, rocky, driftwood-strewn cove for exploring and climbing. Privacy plus is provided by this great location, across from Campbell River, Vancouver Island.
From the deck, relax and watch the ever-changing and interesting world of marine life and traffic go by, from the ferry to tugs, yachts to freighters. You’ll feel like you can reach out and touch passing cruise ships. Evening sunsets over Vancouver Island and the twinkling lights of Campbell River across Discovery Passage add to the natural beauty of sea and sky. Chances are you’ll see a variety of wildlife, from eagles, to otters…and if you’re lucky, a passing pod of orcas or porpoises.
Don't be surprised if you see scuba divers surfacing near-by; Jacques Costeau called this "the second best cold water diving in the world" due to the incredibly diverse and beautiful underwater sea life. Two Quadra Island dive charter companies bring guests from around the world for this remarkable experience.
Children must be supervised carefully at all times because of the open front deck and proximity to the water’s edge and the strong currents of Discovery Passage. Pets are welcome at Saltspray Cottage but the waters out front are not safe for water loving dogs to enjoy.
