Warren
A great host and fisherman, Warren has shown some of the world's top anglers to great fishing and spectacular scenery in the waters around Quadra island and Campbell River.
Whether you go out for a few hours looking for feisty chinook salmon or for a full day on a photography/fishing trip, you can count on a marvellous time!
He's shown orcas to movie stars, and politicians, fed the eagles with corporate executives, families, couples and single anglers. He is an excellent guide who has been fishing since the 1950's.
Truth is, Warren was co-owner of April Point Lodge for almost 50 years and he just can't give up his favourite habit - fishing!
Curtis
It’s all about fun!!!!
At Coastal Wilderness Adventures, Curtis Smith and his team will give you an unforgettable experience during your stay. Whether you choose Saltwater fishing or Freshwater fishing, we’ve got something fun in store.
Campbell River, the “Salmon Capital of the World,” is situated in a prime location, as it is central to many very productive fishing waters of Vancouver Island. The waters surrounding the Campbell River area are very sheltered and offer calm seas, along with great fishing. There is no ocean swell (a common cause of sea-sickness), which makes for a very pleasant fishing trip.
On your trip you might also spot some of the other local wildlife: resident or transient orca whales, pacific white-sided dolphins, black bears and eagles.
We offer free pick up for guests on Quadra Island, either right at the dock at your vacation rental property or in Quathiaski Cove beside the ferry dock.
For our Saltwater trips we use comfortable, 24’ covered and heated Grady White fishing boats, equipped with onboard washrooms. Our boats are outfitted with high-end equipment and are certified by Transport Canada.
On River and Lake trips we use 12-14 foot self-baling river rafts when not on foot. Transportation to and from our river destinations is provided in comfort with our spacious and comfortable new model 4X4 pickup. Just walk on the ferry from Quadra and we will pick you up at the terminal in Campbell River.
We typically fly-fish for our local species; however we are equipped for all methods of fishing. We invite anglers of all skill levels, as we are very patient and understanding of beginner anglers.
With personable and professional guides, your day is sure to be a success in more ways than one.

| Fishing Calendar
- the long version |
| April,
May & June |
| These months
bring an equal mix of 2-4 year
old Springs of 10 - 20 pounds and sub-legal yearlings. The days are long - it's daylight
from 4 in the morning until 10:30 at night, so there is
plenty of time to fish! This quieter time of year is also
peaceful and serene with few boats and lots of bait in
the water for eager feeders.

|
July and
August |
Summer sees an
increase in size and numbers of chinook, coho and pinks in
the Campbell River area. Catches of halibut, snapper
and cod are enjoyed by many as well. Fly-fishing reaches
its peak in mid-August. |
| Mid-August and September |
Late
summer offers catches all salmonid species including Tyee
- the over 30 pound leviathan chinooks of 4 to 6 years
of age. Row in the time honoured fashion of the Tyee Club
of BC, or mooch from a power boat for these giants for
the fight of your life!
|
|
Early Autumn months
yield catches of chinook, pink as well as northern coho
and chums. Winter springs take over in the later months
of the year, becoming our mainstay over the winter months.
FLY FISHING, from the shore or boat, has become a great sport. Abundant runs of pink and coho salmon take the fly readily. Ask Curtis for more information and lessons.
